National Council of Women of Canada AGM 2015
The 122nd NCWC AGM and Conference took place in Montreal hosted by MCW and PCWQ with participation by delegates from across Canada and locally.
Karen Monnon Dempsey became the newly elected President of NCWC at the AGM.

Beijing plus 20 and the post-2015 agenda
Each year member states, UN entities and ECOSOC accredited NGOs, such as NCWC, from around the world gather to work together at the CSW meetings which focus on the progress and the challenges to be overcome to implement the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) agreed to in Beijing at the Fourth Conference on Women in 1995 to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women.

Montreal Woman of the Year Awards – November 21, 2014
This year the selection committee recognized not one, but two outstanding and driven Aboriginal leaders, who are relentless in their work addressing the tough issues pertinent to the Aboriginal population both locally and nationally.
Michèle Taina Audette and Nakuset are both accomplished women and strong advocates for aboriginal rights. Michèle is an effective advocate of Aboriginal women`s positions nationally and is President of the 38th Annual General Assembly of the Native Women's Association of Canada. Nakuset, also a strong advocate for Aboriginal women, is Executive Director of the Women's Shelter in Montreal. Congratulation to Michele Audette and Nakuset, we wish them all the best!
Montreal Council of Women 120th Anniversary Celebrations
120th Anniversary Book
MCW is in the process of completing the publication of its anniversary book which is replete with MCW history and the achievements of MCW, the federates and individual members.
120th Anniversary Concert Recital
In continuing to celebrate their 120th anniversary, MCW presented a recital by internationally renowned concert pianist, Reena Berger Natenberg. The concert was held on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Westmount Park Church and was organized by Marilyn Berger, Reena’s aunt.
Born in Montreal, Reena studied at the McGill Conservatory of Music, as well as other prestigious schools, before receiving her Doctorate of Music in Piano Performance. She has since performed internationally both as a solo and chamber musician throughout North and South America, Asia and Europe. All those who attended greatly enjoyed Ms Berger Natenberg's performance as well as the vin d’honneur that followed.

Statement in the House of Commons

Mr. Speaker, this evening, the Montreal Council of Women will celebrate its 120th anniversary. Since 1893, the council has brought together organizations and individuals from the Montreal region to improve the quality of life of women and their families, and communities.
The Montreal Council of Women has 30,000 members from diverse backgrounds who work together in a spirit of tolerance and mutual respect.
120th Anniversary Reception & Panel Presentation
On November 29, 2013 MCW celebrated their 120th Anniversary with a cocktail reception at the Omni Hotel followed by a panel discussion on the ‘Charter of Secular Values (Bill 60)’, in collaboration with the Women’s Commission of the Liberal party of Canada. Vivianne Silver welcomed those present and delivered an address citing MCW’s 120-year history of work on behalf of women. The Honorable Eleni Bakopanos, MCW Executive Vice-President, Government Affairs served as moderator and presented the two speakers: Pearl Eliadis, an award winning human rights lawyer, and Shahad Salman, a lawyer at the Centre of Genomics and Policy at McGill University.
Montreal City Hall Reception
MCW celebrated their 120th Anniversary with a cocktail reception held at Montreal City Hall on April 16, 2013 and hosted by Montreal Mayor, Michael Applebaum and Madame Emilie Thuillier, Vice-Chair of the Executive Committee responsible for family, seniors, women and youth. A large number of federate and individual members were on hand to join in the festivities along with several city councillors and the protocol and support staff of City Hall. Addresses were delivered by Mayor Applebaum and MCW President Sandra Cohen Rose.
On June 20, 2013, a festive 120th Anniversary Federates Tea was attended by a large number of MCW members and friends. The occasion provided an opportunity for all to exchange ideas with other federates in a convivial environment while enjoying a marvellous array of sandwiches and sweets, and a chance for door prizes.
Golden Mile House Tour
In Celebration of the 120th Anniversary of the Montreal Council of Women a bilingual Golden Mile House Tour was arranged on May 28, 2013 by Sandra Cohen-Rose. About 90 MCW members and friends were warmly greeted at the turn-of-the-century, elegant homes of former well-known Montrealers who contributed to the fabric of our city. These included the Dunlop House, the John-Wilson-McConnell House, the Clarence de Sola House and the Maxwell House. This provided a wonderful opportunity to visit and appreciate the history of these magnificent mansions, generally not open to the public.
Montreal Museum of Fine Arts Peru Exhibition
A guided tour of the special exhibition at the Musée des Beaux Arts (MMFA) on Peru: Kingdoms of the Sun and the Moon, was organised by Cheryl Braganza on April 10, 2013 this in honour of the late Amy Williams, Past President (1975-1978 and 1992-1994) who was born in Peru.
